When it comes to guest appearances, Star Trek has had some big names taking on the roles of one-off characters who we never see again. They are still out there in the universe and sometimes we catch up with them in comics and novels. Since Redux takes place in the Nemesis-era of the timeline, we thought it would be fitting to update some older Personnel to bring them up to date.
When we last saw Robin Lefler (Ashley Judd), she was an aspiring young Ensign working in engineering. She and Wesley Crusher discovered a plot by a rogue group of Ktarians to take over the Enterprise using an addictive game to get control over the crew.
She would later appear in the Star Trek: New Frontier novels as operations officer of the U.S.S. Excalibur. Eventually, Lefler marries the Thallonian Ambassador Si Cwan after serving as his aide.
Captain Morgan Bateson (Kelsey Grammer) commanded the U.S.S. Bozeman when it encountered a temporal distortion and was transported forward in time to the year 2368. After nearly colliding with the Enterprise-D, Bateson and his crew found themselves in the future. We later briefly hear Bateson acknowledging orders to fall back during the Borg attack on Earth in Star Trek: First Contact.
Although we don't see any more of what happens beyond Picard asking Bateson to beam over to the Enterprise to discuss the situation, the story is continued in the novel Ship of the Line in which Bateson is placed in command of the newly constructed Enterprise-E in a story which sees his past catch up to him.
After we see her briefly in the first season TNG episode The Arsenal
of Freedom, Lian T'su (Julia Nickson) disappears into the void that so many other extras sail off into. She helps rescue Captain Jean-Luc Picard and an away team from the planet Minos and continues to serve on the Enterprise-D off-screen for a further two years before transferring to the U.S.S. Tolstoy. After surviving the Battle of Wolf 359, she finds herself facing the Borg again during the Battle of Sector 001 aboard the U.S.S. Budapest where she serves as Senior Operations Officer.
T'su is the subject of the Star Trek: Corps of Engineers novel Wildfire. Her ultimate fate is grim as she is killed during an incident in which her ship is destroyed.
Shelby (Elizabeth Dennehy) was easily a character you loved to hate. Her boundless ambition and eagerness to jump head first into every situation clashes with established characteristics of good Starfleet officers. Still, she remains a popular character in the franchise.
After the events of The Best of Both Worlds, Shelby returned to Starfleet Tactical to continue developing defenses against the Borg. She eventually wound up as the first officer of the U.S.S. Excalibur in the Star Trek: New Frontier series of novels. In the later years of the series' run, Shelby became captain of the U.S.S. Trident.
Having pursued an unsuccessful romantic relationship with Data, Jenna D'Sora (Michele Scarabelli) continued to serve on the Enterprise-D and later on the Enterprise-E eventually scoring the position of Assistant Security Chief. We can only presume she and Data continued their friendship until he sacrificed himself to save Captain Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis.
In addition to these Personnel, we have also brought back some of the Enterprise-E crew members from the popular First Edition expansion First Contact. These background officers have been adapted to this edition and will serve you well.
