Originally introduced in 1994 by Decipher, the First Edition of the game spans 28 sets with a total of 2,621 cards. It combined the storytelling element of the shows and allowed for many scenarios to be played out including time-travel and encounters with the omnipotent Q.

As the game expanded, so too did the rules and variety of cards. This created a steep learning curve and a complicated play process. This led to a decline in sales and a loss of interest in the game for many new players.

In 2002, Decipher released a revamped Second Edition. With a sleek new design and streamlined gameplay, this version was more of a card game with a Star Trek flavor. Much of the storytelling and complicated game mechanics of First Edition were removed in favor of a cost system and keyword system to help facilitate a smoother experience.

This new fan-made Redux Edition aims to combine the great storytelling aspect of the First Edition with the streamlined gameplay of the Second Edition to create a new gameplay experience that will appeal to players of both editions.
