Unlike the original Decipher editions of the Star Trek CCG, where scoring points was based on completing missions at spaceline locations, Redux is taking a different approach. We are bringing back the Objectives from First Edition as the primary way you score points in the game. Locations will still be used but they will not have skills or points printed on them. Instead, you will draw from an objective deck that will give you your current "mission" to accomplish for points.
Ships move between locations in order to attempt objectives and score points. Players match keywords listed on objectives to keywords on locations. They may then attempt to complete the objective at that location. This system introduces an element of uncertainty to mission completion as you don't know what will be coming next or how many points it will be worth! There will, of course, be ways you can discard an objective if you are having trouble completing it.
The original Decipher editions have become very structured with "engines" that are designed to be played a specific way and players simply play these "engines" adjusting only when required to do so by their opponent's moves. This new system will give players the ability to think on their feet and adjust their strategy as they go. You can still build a deck around a central theme, but you will have to be prepared for whatever comes your way - just like in Star Trek.
