Duras: House of Treachery

Updated: Feb 25, 2022

The House of Duras was once a great and powerful House in the Klingon Empire. The three most recent generations, however, have been fraught with dishonor and maliciousness against the Empire. Ja'rod, leader of the house in 2346, provided the Romulans with the codes to lower the defenses protecting the Klingon colony on Khitomer resulting in a massacre there. Ja'rod's son, Duras, sought leadership of the High Council and murdered anyone who stood in his way. His sisters, Lursa and B'Etor, conspired with Romulans (like their father before them) in an attempt to seize the Empire. They discovered an illegitimate son of Duras, Toral, who they used as a pawn in their scheme. Toral later attempted to take control of the Empire himself by trying to steal the Sword of Kahless.

These personnel, their supporters, and their ships, provide a new option for Klingon players. Traditionally, Klingon decks built around the Honor skill have been the norm as Second Edition was designed in that way. The new House of Duras faction icon focuses on the Treachery skill

as well as the Dissident and Smuggler keywords. There is also an event - Calling the Banners - which allows you to "recruit" Treachery and low Integrity Klingons to your cause by adding the faction icon to them and scoring bonus points for using them.

There's not just Klingons in the mix - there are Romulans too! Several Romulan personnel who have aided the House of Duras over the years also have the new faction icon. This allows you to build a House of Duras deck combining the talents of both affiliations and the I.K.S. Vorn allows them to report directly aboard. This should provide a unique strategy to build around!
